gork v1.1
Stablereleased this
2026-10-14 14:06:37 +00:00 | 0 commits to master since this release- New: streamed replies. With
stream(auto: on in the TUI, off in
batch mode) the text shows as it arrives, for both protocols. A
chunked reply is decoded. - New: the TUI has a line editor (Left, Right, Home, End, Delete, ^A,
^E), Up and Down through the lines sent before, and input of
several lines (a backslash, then Enter). Esc also stops an MCP call. - New: MCP servers over streamable HTTP: an entry with a "url" instead
of a "command", with "headers" if it wants a token. gork has no TLS:
an https:// server is reached through a "relay" that has. Entries in
Zed's layout, with a "transport", are read too. - New: docs/examples has sample .gork.conf, gork.cnf and mcp.json.
- DOS: both builds are the bare bones: no streaming, no input of
several lines, and no MCP. The 16-bit build gets its address by
DHCP if asked. - Newly confirmed: MS-DOS 2.11 (the 16-bit build), DR-DOS 7.03 (both),
Windows 3.0 and 3.1 in standard mode (the 16-bit build), MS-DOS 6.22
with HIMEM and EMM386, and SPX through Novell's IPXODI and through a
WSGEN-made IPX.COM. The 16-bit build on an emulated 8086 and 286. - DOS, 32-bit: the time zone is set up first. A stat() before the
first time() leaves DJGPP's clock stuck, so that a request can be
neither waited out nor aborted; no release had one, but the next
change might have. - Fixed: DOS, 16-bit: a task in the TUI without a packet driver loaded
ended gork with the screen as curses left it. - Fixed: DOS, 16-bit: on MS-DOS 2 gork found no gork.cnf, and the TUI
hung waiting for a key. - Fixed: Windows: gork.exe held two instructions a 486 lacks, from
MinGW's start-up code.

gork v1.0
Stablereleased this
2026-10-13 14:59:38 +00:00 | 21 commits to master since this release- The first full release. gork is free software under the GNU GPL,
version 3 or later. - New: a 16-bit DOS build, gork-1.0-dos16.zip: real mode, 640K,
for the 8086 and up, and for where no protected mode is to be had
(Windows/386 2.x). A conversation is kept small there. - New: SPX. On an IPX network without TCP/IP, the DOS and Windows
builds reach a relay withrelay = spx:NET.NODE:SOCKET. The relay
is gork-relay, a program of its own (github.com/yeold/gork-relay),
which also does what the socat line did. - New: static Linux binaries for ten CPUs, gork-1.0-linux-*.tar.gz:
amd64, i386, arm64, armhf, riscv64, s390x, ppc64el, powerpc, m68k
and hppa. - Windows: gork-1.0-win32.zip is now the Cygwin build, packed to
run without Cygwin, for 64-bit Windows 10 and later; it has MCP
servers. The native build is gork-1.0-win32-legacy.zip, for
everything back to Windows 95, and has none. It gains gorknt3.exe,
for Windows NT 3.1 and 3.5. - Newly confirmed, the DOS build: MS-DOS 3.30 and 4.01, and DOS boxes
under Windows 1.04, 2.03, 2.11, 3.0 and 3.1. The Windows build:
Windows NT 3.1, 3.51, 4.0, 2000 and XP, Windows 95 and Me. Linux on
m68k, powerpc and hppa. - Fixed: on MS-DOS 4.01 edit_file crashed inside DJGPP's stat().
- Fixed: a Windows console showed non-ASCII text as its UTF-8 bytes.
- Fixed: on 32-bit Linux, a directory on a file system with 64-bit
inode numbers was listed as empty. - Fixed: the temporary file of a write has an 8.3 name on Windows too,
which a FAT disk under Windows NT 3.1 needs. - Hardening, after a code scan: paths and the request head are no
longer built in fixed buffers; ~/.gork/trusted is created readable by
its owner only. protocol = openaiis confirmed against a real server.- README: a table of the tested systems, the packages, and which
builds have MCP servers; the developer notes moved to docs/.

Pre-releasereleased this
2026-10-12 10:34:27 +00:00 | 48 commits to master since this release- The TUI shows the version: in its top bar, after "gork", and in the
window title, where the terminal has one. - The top bar now has the context size before the model, so that a
narrow terminal cuts off the working directory, not the context. - DOS and Windows: messages that pointed at ~/.gork.conf now name the
file gork really reads there, with its full path. The README has a
table of the file and directory names on Unix, DOS and Windows. - Windows: gork.exe is confirmed working on Windows 11, TUI included.

Pre-releasereleased this
2026-10-12 09:39:52 +00:00 | 55 commits to master since this release- New: a native Windows build, gork--win32.zip. One 32-bit
gork.exe for Windows 9x and NT, built with MinGW, PDCurses and Winsock
1.1. Experimental. It works on Windows 98 Second Edition (on a
Pentium, batch mode and TUI) and passes its checks on Windows Server
2025 and under Wine; Windows 95, NT 4, 2000 and XP are untested. - On Windows the config is gork.cnf and the directory _gork, as on DOS;
there are no MCP servers, run_command cannot be timed out or
interrupted, and text files are written with CR LF line ends.
docs/BUILD.md has the details. - New: macOS packages on the GitHub release, built by GitHub Actions:
gork--macos.pkg and .tar.gz, one binary for Apple silicon
and Intel, macOS 11 or later. Not signed. - DOS: a path like c:/file is now resolved in the root directory of the
drive, not in its current directory.

gork v0.8-beta Pre-release
released this
2026-10-12 06:27:55 +00:00 | 59 commits to master since this release- New setting protocol = openai: gork can speak the OpenAI chat
completions format (llama.cpp, Ollama, vLLM, OpenAI and services
shaped like it) as well as the Messages API. The key is then sent as
Authorization: Bearer and comes from OPENAI_API_KEY, not
ANTHROPIC_API_KEY. Untested: it has only been run against a fake
server, never a real one. - Newly verified, both passing the test suite: macOS 26 on arm64 and
Cygwin 3.6 on Windows. GitHub Actions builds and tests both on every
push. - Test suite: a new check for the OpenAI protocol, and the skills check
no longer fails where the temporary directory is a symbolic link.

gork v0.7-beta Pre-release
released this
2026-10-12 03:54:19 +00:00 | 64 commits to master since this release- First release named as a beta: tag v0.7-beta, version 0.7~beta.
Everything before 1.0 is a beta. - Builds on GNU/Hurd, which has no PATH_MAX.
- configure falls back to libncursesw where it is the only curses.
- The status line can no longer overflow its buffer with very long
model and host names. - DOS: an allow directory that does not exist is refused, as on Unix;
gork.exe also passes its tests on MS-DOS 6.22 and DR-DOS 7.03. - Newly verified, all passing the test suite: Debian GNU/Hurd, DragonFly
BSD 6.4, NetBSD 11.0, MidnightBSD 4.0, Linux with musl and uClibc, and
Linux on s390x, armhf, arm64, ppc64el, riscv64 and i386. Minix 3.3
and OpenBSD on SPARC64 build and run; docs/PROGRESS.md has the details
and what is still open.

released this
2026-10-11 19:39:29 +00:00 | 80 commits to master since this release- gork --version prints the version and exits.
- DOS: allow directories on other drives work; the list is separated
by ';' there, since ':' is part of the drive letter. - DOS: gork.exe no longer carries the MCP client, which cannot work
without fork. - DOS: checked against a real model (LM Studio) as well as the fake API,
and Jenkins now runs testing/dostest.py -- FreeDOS in QEMU -- on every
build. Only real hardware is untested. - Releases before 1.0 are betas: they are published as pre-releases,
which GitHub and Forgejo can hide.

gork v0.5.1 Pre-release
released this
2026-10-11 19:25:10 +00:00 | 82 commits to master since this release- DOS: edit_file now works across lines. DOS text files end lines with
CR LF while the model sends bare newlines, so a multi-line edit never
matched; the file tools use text mode there now. - DOS: while a command runs, the TUI says it cannot be interrupted
instead of offering Esc. - New testing/dostest.py: boots FreeDOS in QEMU and checks gork.exe
against a fake API (round trip, path confinement, edit_file,
run_command, timeout, TUI).

gork v0.5 Pre-release
released this
2026-10-11 18:57:12 +00:00 | 85 commits to master since this release- Experimental DOS build: gork.exe for 386+ machines (DJGPP, PDCurses,
Watt-32), shipped as gork-0.5-dos.zip with CWSDPMI. Batch mode, the
TUI, file tools and run_command work on FreeDOS; MCP servers do not
exist there. docs/TODO-DOS.md lists what is left. - Builds on the first 4.4BSD-based releases without edits: relay.c
includes <sys/types.h> first. Verified by hand compile on NetBSD 1.0,
FreeBSD 2.0 and OpenBSD 2.0. - Verified on Solaris 2.5.1, 2.6 and 10 and on OpenSolaris build 134,
all with a plain ./configure. - New docs/BUILD.md with build instructions per operating system; the
README keeps a one-row-per-family table of tested systems.

gork v0.4 Pre-release
released this
2026-10-11 13:10:27 +00:00 | 96 commits to master since this release- Runs on much older systems: the floor is now gcc 2.4.5, libc 4.5 and
Linux 1.0 (verified on Slackware 2.0.0 from 1994), down from gcc 2.95
and glibc 2.1. The TUI uses only curses calls that ncurses 1.8.5 has. - Builds on the first 4.4BSD-based releases: NetBSD 1.0, FreeBSD 2.0 and
OpenBSD 2.0; README has the one-line build commands. - illumos and OpenSolaris: configure accepts the System V curses.h and
links the matching libcurses; pressing Esc while waiting for the model
no longer crashes with the 64-bit system curses. - Full test suite passes on FreeBSD 15.1, OpenBSD 7.9 and OmniOS; the
suite itself no longer depends on timing. - README: table of tested systems and a table of contents;
testing/oldvm.sh builds a Debian 1.3 machine for QEMU.
